Construction progresses on the new 17-foot sound wall at Universal Orlando's Epic Universe, designed to enhance the visitor experience.
Universal Orlando, August 28, 2025
Universal Orlando is making significant upgrades to its Epic Universe, including the construction of a new 17-foot sound wall designed to reduce noise and improve visitor experience. This project, valued at approximately $5 million, spans over 0.53 miles and features robust engineering to withstand high winds. Along with this, Universal has initiated demolition of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster and is planning future expansions at the park. These enhancements aim to elevate the attractions and overall guest satisfaction at Universal Orlando.
Construction activities have resumed at Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe, particularly behind the popular Stardust Racers roller coaster. Recent developments indicate the initiation of a large sound wall, designed to enhance the park’s environment by reducing noise and preventing outside views.
According to new permits, the sound wall will stand at an impressive 17 feet tall and stretch for 0.53 miles. It is designed to withstand strong winds reaching speeds of up to 139 mph. The construction of the sound wall, which has a price tag of $5 million, will utilize green materials, with steel columns positioned every 20 feet, filled with panels in between.
This wall aims to block external views of the park, similar to the sound wall located behind Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Permits for this ambitious construction project have been filed by Universal’s Shingle Creek Transit & Utility Community Development District, with an expiration date set for February 2026.
The site for the sound wall has already been cleared, extending from Sand Lake Road to the edge of the water treatment plant’s property. To facilitate construction, a temporary bypass road has been established, which allows Team Member shuttles to navigate the area without hindrance. Currently, heavy machinery is actively on-site, and footings for the wall are in the process of being installed.
In addition to the sound wall, new permits have been submitted for a nearby 53.76-acre parcel of land, known as the “West Parcel Mass Grading.” While specific details regarding its intended use remain unclear, proposed renovations hint at plans for additional construction and a stormwater management system. Speculators anticipate the development of new hotels, entertainment districts, or park venues on this parcel.
Universal Orlando has been upgrading its offerings, including the addition of Universal Express service to two attractions: Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry and Donkey Kong Mine-Cart Madness. Furthermore, the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster officially closed on August 17, 2025, after 16 years of thrilling rides. The demolition phase has commenced quickly, with several sections of the coaster track already removed within days.
The last operational day of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit saw themed characters interact with guests in a celebratory farewell, providing memorabilia to riders as a parting gift. Looking ahead, a new roller coaster is anticipated to take the place of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit in a similar footprint, as suggested by permit filings.
Meanwhile, Volcano Bay, Universal’s water park, is scheduled for a major seasonal refurbishment from October 26, 2026, to March 24, 2027. This refurbishment will see the retirement of the TapuTapu wearable system. In addition to Volcano Bay, several attractions at Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida are also set for refurbishments, with a major overhaul rumored for the Jurassic Park River Adventure.
As Universal Orlando continues to innovate and enhance guest experiences, more updates and visuals on projects will be shared across various communication channels.
The sound wall is designed to block outside views of the park and reduce noise pollution, enhancing the overall park experience for guests and surrounding areas.
The sound wall will stand 17 feet tall and span 0.53 miles.
The Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit closed on August 17, 2025, and is currently being demolished. A new roller coaster is expected to replace it soon.
