The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is gearing up for significant lane closures on Loop 1604, Interstate 10, and Texas 123 this week. These closures are part of ongoing construction efforts aimed at improving the infrastructure across the region.

Beginning this week, all westbound lanes of Loop 1604 will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The affected section runs between the Stone Oak Parkway exit ramp and the Lockhill Selma Road entrance ramp. This closure is expected to last through Saturday, creating potential delays for commuters during late-night and early-morning hours.

In conjunction with the Loop 1604 closures, Blanco Road will also be closed entirely between the Loop 1604 westbound frontage road and Madera Parkway during the same hours. Drivers using these routes should be prepared to follow detours that will be set up by TxDOT to minimize traffic disruptions.

These lane closures are necessary as part of the ambitious $1.4 billion Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. This project aims to broaden the highway’s capacity from four to ten lanes, significantly enhancing traffic flow in the heavily used corridor. Despite facing delays due to funding and environmental regulatory issues, the project kicked off in 2021 and is on track for completion in 2028.

On Thursday night, additional closures will take place on Texas 123 beneath I-10 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday. During this time, all lanes of Texas 123 will be closed for bridge construction. Simultaneously, the left lane of I-10 eastbound will also be closed in the area where it passes over Texas 123.

Drivers should also be aware that the main lanes of I-10 eastbound in Seguin will experience a “traffic switch” as the state moves forward with construction. This will take place from 9 p.m. on August 1 to 5 a.m. on August 4, further complicating traffic patterns along this major route.

For those traveling on the Northwest side of San Antonio, bridge construction will prompt weekend closures. These closures will be in effect from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 27, until 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, and again from 3 p.m. on Saturday until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 30. Expect increased traffic in these areas as workers carry out essential infrastructure upgrades.

Adding to the weekend disruptions, the I-35 Northeast Expansion Project will necessitate the closure of the southbound I-35 frontage road from Evans Road to Olympia Parkway for milling and overlay work. The entrance ramp to Loop 410 south from the southbound I-35 frontage road will be closed from 11 p.m. on Friday, June 27, until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 30, although the ramp linking the southbound I-35 main lanes to Loop 410 south will remain open for use.

To help manage traffic during these closures, law enforcement will direct vehicles through affected intersections as necessary, particularly during early weekend closures. TxDOT urges drivers to pay close attention to detour signage and to prepare for the possibility of traffic congestion as these construction activities unfold.
