In a noteworthy landmark event, Auburn University’s Applied Research Institute recently held a “topping off” ceremony for a new 50,000-square-foot research facility located on Mark C. This state-of-the-art research facility is supported by an $11.4 million Department of Defense contract and will serve as the first university-led radiation hardening test facility in the nation. In a move to accommodate the growing population, Huntsville is also expanding its urban footprint by annexing nearly 400 acres in Limestone County, which is projected to lead to over 4,000 new homes.
