The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Green Meadow Elementary School in Maynard, Massachusetts, took place last month, marking an exciting development for the community. CTA Construction Managers, a Waltham-based firm, has been awarded the contract to bring this project to life. With the anticipated completion date set for summer 2027, the new facility aims to cater to the educational needs of approximately 395 students in grades K-3, alongside a dedicated Pre-K program for around 100 children.
Designed by Mount Vernon Group Architects, the new school will encompass a substantial footprint of 90,525 square feet over two stories. The architectural plan includes a central core that will feature shared public spaces such as a gymnasium, cafetorium, administrative offices, health suite, and a media center. This layout is intended to foster a sense of community and collaboration among students and faculty alike.
In addition to its core facilities, the school will feature two “neighborhoods” consisting of classrooms tailored for Pre-K through grade 3. Each wing will house general education classrooms, special education spaces, support areas, common regions, and restrooms to ensure a holistic and inclusive educational environment. The design reflects a modern understanding of how children learn best, promoting interaction and engagement in their learning processes.
Located on a 33-acre site near both residential areas and wooded land, the school’s positioning is strategic, accommodating potential growth within the community. The new facility will be built just 30 feet from the existing Green Meadow Elementary School, which will be abated and demolished following the construction of the new building to allow for further site development.
This project represents a return for CTA to Maynard, as the firm previous constructed the award-winning Maynard High School. This partnership continues a long-standing collaboration with Mount Vernon Group and Colliers Project Leaders, the town’s owner’s project manager (OPM) firm, particularly over the last 12 years.
As the construction progresses, foundational work for the new school has already been completed, setting the stage for the upcoming phases. Once finished, the new facility will be staffed by approximately 110 faculty and staff members, ensuring an optimal teacher-to-student ratio and fostering a caring, educational atmosphere.
CTA Construction Managers specializes in educational, municipal, and residential projects and boasts a project portfolio exceeding $2.0 billion. Since its founding in 2000, the firm has partnered with over 150 certified small, veteran, disadvantaged, minority, and women-owned enterprises, emphasizing its dedication to inclusivity in its contracting practices.
The company is also recognized for its commitment to sustainable building practices, having met LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and MA-CHPS (Massachusetts Collaborative for High Performance Schools) standards. This alignment with green building initiatives adds another layer of value to the new Green Meadow Elementary School, promising an environmentally friendly and healthy learning environment for future generations.
As the project unfolds, the Maynard community is eager to see how this new facility will enhance educational opportunities and support the growth of its young learners. The Green Meadow Elementary School promises to be a meaningful addition to the town, with a focus on cultivating a nurturing and modern educational space.
