The Beach Bar Reopens on Fort Myers Beach with Resilient New Structure

Fort Myers Beach, FL – A beloved local spot has risen from the ashes of Hurricane Ian’s destruction. The Beach Bar, located at 1668 I St., has reopened with a new structure following months of construction that began in October 2024.

The recent reopening marks a significant event for the community, which has been eager to see the return of this popular destination. The original Beach Bar was demolished during Hurricane Ian in 2022, but the new construction aims to be more resilient and better equipped to handle future storms.

Spanning a total footprint of 6,133 square feet, the Beach Bar stands impressively three stories tall. The design of the new building incorporates several long-lasting materials such as simulated stucco siding, composite soffits, and a standing seam metal roof. These materials were specifically chosen to endure the harsh coastal environment.

One of the striking features include yellow Bahama shutters that enhance the building’s facade and complement the bar’s logo. The first floor is vibrant and accommodating, serving as the heart of the bar. It features an open-air, walk-up bar, covered beachfront seating, and retail space, along with ample storage. The design of the first floor allows for flexibility, including easy-to-move temporary cooler storage and restroom trailers that can be relocated quickly if a storm approaches.

Durability was a focus during the construction process, with marine-grade cabinetry installed on the first floor to withstand the effects of sunlight and saltwater exposure, essential for beachfront properties. Additionally, to protect local wildlife, especially hatching sea turtles, the building includes turtle-friendly glass and lighting to minimize beachfront illumination.

The upper levels of the building are designed to accommodate a residential unit available for rent, creating an additional revenue stream for the Beach Bar. This aspect further emphasizes the commitment to making the bar a sustainable fixture in the community.

Stevens Construction played a pivotal role in bringing the Beach Bar back to life, coordinating the design team selection, managing project scheduling, and navigating the permitting process with the Fort Myers Beach municipality. The collaboration spanned 12 months leading up to the actual construction phase, ensuring that everything was set for a successful reopening.

The team at Stevens Construction comprised dedicated members who worked tirelessly on the project, including a project manager, superintendent, and project administrator. The architectural vision for the new structure was crafted by Studio A.D., while Edge Interiors handled the interior design, creating a welcoming and stylish atmosphere.

A grand reopening event was held on July 4, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony that celebrated the return of the Beach Bar to the community. The reopening has been met with excitement, as it signifies hope and resilience after a devastating natural disaster.

Under the backdrop of community spirit, the Beach Bar aims to provide a secure space, equipped with security gates that can be deployed during storm events, ensuring the safety of guests and staff alike. The building is elevated to a height of 20 feet and is constructed from concrete, steel, and metal, showcasing a commitment to strong and safe architecture.

The Beach Bar embodies the motto: “Come in as friends, and dance out as family,” reflecting its aim to be more than just a bar, but a cherished gathering place for locals and visitors alike. With its new features and strong design, the Beach Bar not only signifies resilience but also serves as a reminder to the community of its enduring spirit.

For all those looking to enjoy music, food, and a splendid view of the beach, the newly constructed Beach Bar is ready to welcome you back.
