Professionals in construction and design leveraging AI technology for enhanced productivity.
A new report from Houzz Inc. reveals a significant rise in the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the construction and design sectors. Approximately 34% of over 700 surveyed professionals are already incorporating AI into their workflows, leading to substantial productivity gains and time savings. Many expect AI to transform the industry in the next five years, with higher rates of adoption among larger firms. Despite challenges related to reliability and training, satisfaction levels among AI users are notably high, indicating a promising future for AI in these fields.
Recent findings from a new report by Houzz Inc. indicate a significant increase in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) among professionals in the construction and design industries. The report, titled 2025 U.S. Houzz State of AI in Construction and Design Report, is based on a comprehensive survey of over 700 industry professionals conducted between May 9 and May 28, 2025.
According to the survey, more than one-third (34%) of professionals in the construction and design fields are currently utilizing AI technology in their work. Respondents who engage with AI report an average time saving of over 3 hours per week, attributing this improvement to increased productivity, reduced manual tasks, and enhanced organizational efficiency. In monetary terms, the time saved through AI tools equates to more than $108,000 in annual productivity gains for each business.
66% of those surveyed believe that AI is on the brink of transforming the construction and design industry within the next five years. This widespread optimism is reflected in the attitudes toward AI tools specifically tailored for industry workflows, with nearly 60% of professionals reporting familiarity with such tools. The increasing trend of AI adoption is particularly visible in larger firms, where 50% of businesses with over 10 employees are employing AI technologies.
The report highlights distinct patterns in the implementation of AI tools across different segments of the industry. Designers primarily use AI for tasks related to administration and content generation, whereas construction professionals tend to focus on administrative workflows and project management. This tailored use of AI reflects the unique needs and operational focuses of each sector.
Despite concerns surrounding the technology, 71% of respondents expressed satisfaction with their experiences utilizing AI tools. This figure suggests a growing acceptance of AI as a beneficial component of modern workflows in construction and design.
While the momentum toward AI adoption is strong, several challenges remain. Participants raised concerns regarding the reliability and accuracy of AI outputs. Issues surrounding data security and privacy risks were also highlighted, along with the need for greater training and the development of technical expertise amongst staff. These concerns indicate that while the potential of AI is recognized, operational challenges must be addressed to ensure successful implementation.
The complete survey included responses from 722 U.S. businesses in the construction and design sectors, as well as 76 specialized trade professionals, such as electricians and plumbers. These insights provide a comprehensive view of the current landscape and underscore the growing role of AI in shaping the future of construction and design.
The report serves as a crucial resource for understanding AI’s integration within the construction and design sectors, offering both optimism and caution as the industry moves forward in an increasingly digital landscape.
