Construction professionals enhance productivity with AI tools.
A new report reveals a significant increase in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) within the construction and design industries in the U.S. Over 34% of professionals are currently utilizing AI, leading to considerable time savings and productivity gains. While awareness of AI’s capabilities is high, many professionals lack formal training. The report highlights various applications of AI in administrative tasks, sales, and project management, while also addressing concerns related to reliability and data security. The industry is poised for transformation as more professionals embrace AI’s potential benefits.
A recent report has shed light on the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the construction and design industry, showing that many professionals are becoming aware of AI’s potential. The 2025 U.S. Houzz State of AI in Construction and Design Report highlights how the industry is adapting to these technological advancements, showcasing both the benefits and areas of concern.
The report is based on a survey that included over 700 construction and design professionals. It revealed that more than a third, specifically 34%, are currently integrating AI into their businesses. This indicates a significant movement towards technology adoption, even though many are still cautious.
Users of AI reported saving an average of more than 3 hours per week, which translates to productivity gains exceeding $108,000 annually per business. These figures underline the tangible benefits that AI can offer, helping companies become more efficient in managing their resources and time.
The potential of AI in the construction and design sectors appears to be well recognized, as nearly 66% of survey respondents believe that AI will transform the industry within the next five years. Additionally, 69% of professionals expressed awareness of AI technologies, while a mere 8% reported having no exposure to it.
A notable 59% of professionals have familiarity with AI tools that are specifically designed for construction and design workflows. Larger firms tend to adopt these technologies at higher rates, with 32% of construction firms and 31% of design firms implementing AI. Among even larger companies, these rates escalate to 64% and 50%, respectively.
The report breaks down how AI is being utilized in various facets of construction and design. Some of the primary uses include:
Among AI users in both design and construction, a large 71% report satisfaction with their experiences. Furthermore, 58% state that AI has had a moderate to significant impact on their workflow, indicating that while there are improvements, there are aspects that still need addressing.
Despite the positive feedback, concerns persist among industry professionals. Issues surrounding the reliability and accuracy of AI outputs, as well as data security and privacy risks, are significant. Moreover, a striking 94% of designers and 92% of contractors indicated that they have received no formal training on how to effectively apply AI in their work.
The findings suggest a pressing need for accessible methods to integrate AI into existing workflows for construction and design professionals. With ongoing developments, the introduction of AI-powered platforms, such as Houzz Pro, is aiding this transition by offering features designed for estimates, takeoffs, messaging, and visualization.
In summary, the growing awareness and adoption of AI in construction and design marks a pivotal shift in the industry. While many are embracing these technologies due to their potential for efficiency and productivity, challenges remain in training and implementation. The evolving landscape promises opportunities as the industry moves toward a more AI-integrated future.
