San Jose has secured financing for a new seven-story affordable housing complex near the future Little Portugal BART Station. This project will provide over 300 units for low-income families and individuals, marking a significant step in addressing the housing crisis. Developed by the Corporation for Better Housing and JSL Real Estate, the complex will feature 303 affordable studios and two units for on-site managers. Construction, funded by $138.6 million, is expected to take 17 months, reflecting the city’s commitment to addressing the urgent demand for affordable living options.
Construction financing has been finalized for an impactful seven-story apartment complex situated at 1271-1279 East Julian Street in San Jose. This strategic location is notably close to the upcoming Little Portugal BART Station, aiming to enhance accessibility for future residents. The development is set to provide over 300 units of affordable housing, addressing the pressing need for economical living options in the city.
The new property owners behind this initiative, Corporation for Better Housing and JSL Real Estate, are taking significant steps toward transforming the one-acre site into a vibrant residential community. They acquired two parcels of land for a total of $8.15 million, marking a substantial investment in San Jose’s growing housing market.
Total financing for the construction has reached an impressive $138.6 million, with the bulk of these funds sourced from Banc of California. This financial backing enables the comprehensive development of the apartment complex, which will stand at an estimated height of 85 feet.
The complex will comprise a total of 305 apartments, predominantly featuring 303 affordable studios along with two units designated for on-site managers. This mix is designed to cater to a diverse group of residents, ensuring that those in need of affordable housing have access to suitable living conditions.
Y & M Architects has been commissioned as the design firm for this ambitious project. Their expertise will contribute to creating a visually appealing yet functional space that meets the needs of its future occupants. The architecture aims to embody contemporary living while addressing the aesthetic and practical needs of the San Jose community.
The construction phase of this housing project is estimated to last approximately seventeen months from the groundbreaking ceremony to the project’s completion. Once completed, the complex is expected to significantly contribute to the local housing supply, thereby alleviating some of the housing shortages currently faced in San Jose.
As the city continues to grapple with the challenges of affordable housing, this new complex represents a step toward better living conditions for many residents. The proximity to the forthcoming BART station makes it an even more attractive option for those relying on public transportation for commuting to work or accessing different parts of the city.
This project is not only focused on residential units but also serves a broader goal of fostering community growth and sustainability. By situating the new apartments near transit options, the development encourages residents to utilize public transportation, potentially reducing traffic congestion and promoting a greener lifestyle.
As construction progresses, the partnership between Corporation for Better Housing and JSL Real Estate will be pivotal in ensuring that the project stays on track and meets the needs of the community. Their collaboration signals a commitment to tackling the affordable housing crisis in San Jose, and their active involvement in this project may pave the way for future developments aimed at improving living conditions.
In summary, the financing secured for the new affordable housing complex is a vital step towards enhancing the housing landscape in San Jose. With significant investment and strategic planning, the city is moving forward in addressing the urgent need for affordable living spaces, offering hope for many residents who are in search of suitable homes.
